The “310” is one of ELAC's most widely acclaimed speakers, which has received awards all over the world. Making use of the latest ELAC technologies, it has been improved even further. “CE” stands for “Crystal Edition”: the new crystal membrane technology that has created a worldwide sensation. It therefore seemed the natural next step that, in addition to the JET tweeter drives and other technological goodies, the “310” - ELAC's highly-successful speaker - should be equipped with prize-winning crystal membrane woofer technology.
The ELAC JET tweeter is one of the most legendary tweeters in the hi-fi trade and has won international renown with its unusual transparent and effortless sound image.
The JET tweeter was developed to perfection on the basis of the famous 'Air Motion Transformer' by loudspeaker pioneer Dr Oskar Heil. Its principle: a concertinaed foil membrane is driven by a strong magnet system of neodymium rods.
This 'motor' drives the air considerably faster than the conventional pistonic technique. High sensitivity and extraordiary dynamics are the result.
The picture at the left displays the new JET III tweeter with its larger sound orifice. Due to many additional design changes (e.g. new neodymium magnet system) a higher efficiency and a smoother sound pressure level frequency response up to 50 kHz was achieved.
A special feature are the ELAC proprietary bass ports. As if from the wind tunnel, the double flare port has been designed so as to minimise ventilation noises and to reduce friction losses.
Although the movements in a driver may appear negligible, the drivers are in fact exposed to substantial mechanical strain. To guarantee resonance-free performance and the best possible mechanical conditions, all ELAC driver baskets and mounting plates consist of a special high-tech polyamide, which is reinforced with fibre thus proving extremely torsion-resistant.
The lifestyle monitors of the ELAC Classics allowed us to implement even several aspects relevant to sound at a time.
Their outstanding feature are the aluminium cabinets. They consist of 7.5 mm (ELAC 330 CE) and 6.5 mm (ELAC 310 CE) extruded aluminium, reinforced with a central crosspiece. As a complement to the metallic construction, both models feature metal grilles. In this, the particular stiffness of the material provides the almost 100 percent resonance-free characteristic of the cabinets.
Moreover, these cabinets best of all supported the concept of a compact build. These models, and particularly the ELAC 330 CE, feature a baffle reduced to the minimum, thus coming very close to the ideal of a point source. The resulting three-dimensional and airy sound image unfolds especially well on stands.
Almost 95 % of these models are recyclable, and every component can be disassembled without damage and replaced or reused.
With the ELAC 310 CE, we created the smallest state-of-the-art hi-fi monitors worldwide. The often awarded design of the ELAC 330 CE has never been imitated.
These ELAC Classics are samples for perfect synthesis of technology and design: each model forms a distinguished unit of stunning aesthetics and advanced technical function.
The ELAC "JET Dispersion Control DC" is a flat ring made of open-cell rubber foam which is mounted around the JET orifice with four clasps (or with adhesive tape).
The JET DC results in a broadband reduction of about 0.5 dB of the radiated sound level nearly independent of frequency. The JET DC is best suited for rooms with little sound absorption at high frequencies, especially for rooms with large windows without curtains or with a smooth floor without a carpet.
All loudspeakers of the 300 series with JET are supplied with the JET Dispersion Control as an accessory.
